Empowerment Requires Self-Examination

As an unorthodox black woman, who’s also subscribed to black feminism, I’ve learned that the definition of “women’s empowerment” is deeper than a sister circle or a symposium.

Women’s empowerment is unpacking the ugly truths about yourself, which aren’t going to always be prepossessing. It’s holding yourself accountable for allowing YOUR toxic behaviors to exist beyond their expiration dates.

We can’t always assume that empowerment is learning how to dismiss others without, first, dismissing parts about ourselves that no longer serve our higher good.
